Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A Star Wars fan of 9 or older, or an adult who collects Clone Wars sets, and wants a large vehicle that comes with a full squad.
Best occasion : Christmas or a birthday for a dedicated fan.
Why it works : Eight figures come in the box, five minifigures and three Battle Droids, so the recipient can stage a Clone Wars scene straight away without buying a second set. The sides fold down and the roof lifts off to reach the interior, and the vehicle steers by tilting, which keeps it playable as well as displayable.
Avoid if : Your budget is under $100 or the recipient does not follow The Clone Wars: at about $198 this is one of the pricier Star Wars sets, and 295 reviews is a smaller sample than the best-known sets have.
