Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A Mario fan who owns a Nintendo Switch 2 and wants a second controller with some personality
Best occasion : Christmas, birthday
Why it works : Most controllers come in black; this one carries a Super Mario Star design that glows in the dark and Nintendo's official license. Two programmable back buttons, motion controls and a battery rated for up to 40 hours make it a working controller, not a shelf piece. Rated 4.6 across 255 reviews at about $59.
Avoid if : He or she does not own a Switch or Switch 2, or already has the official Nintendo Pro Controller and wants nothing else on the table.
