Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A fan of the film Coraline or of stop-motion animation who would display a prop from it.
Best occasion : Halloween for a spooky-season collector, or Christmas for someone who loves the film.
Why it works : It is the doll from the film rather than a generic toy: the yarn hair, button eyes and yellow raincoat are the details fans look for, and the posable wire armature lets them stage it on a shelf. Rated 4.8 across nearly 4,900 reviews at about $35, it is an affordable collectible with a clear audience.
Avoid if : The recipient has not seen Coraline or is a young child: the listing sells it as a collectible for fans, and the story is a spooky one.
