Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A child who loves the Disney Princess films and likes small-scale storytelling play with several characters at once.
Best occasion : Christmas stocking or main gift, and a birthday for a Disney Princess fan.
Why it works : Ten characters in one box (five princesses and their five friends) gives a lot of play for about $25, and it spans five films so the giver does not have to guess a favorite. It is rated 4.7 across 1,932 reviews.
Avoid if : The child wants dolls that stand by themselves or larger fashion dolls: these are 3.5 inches and the listing says they cannot stand alone. Colors and decorations may vary, and small parts mean checking the age grading on the Amazon page.
