Sally Hepworth's Mad Mabel stars Elsie Mabel Fitzpatrick, eighty-one, gloriously grumpy and never without a cup of tea or a cutting remark. In her quiet Melbourne suburb nobody knows she was once Mad Mabel Waller, Australia's youngest convicted murderer, until a neighbor turns up dead and the whispers start. A chatty seven-year-old who moves in across the road and a few unlikely allies drag her into the mystery. An instant New York Times bestseller, it blends humor and suspense with a heroine older readers rarely get to see in the lead.
