It Takes Two is a platform adventure built purely for co-op: two players share a couch with split-screen or play online, following the clashing couple Cody and May, turned into dolls by a magic spell. A Friend's Pass lets a second player join for free, and Smart Delivery means the Xbox One copy also plays on Xbox Series X|S. Rated 4.6 across 676 reviews, at about $45.
Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A couple or two friends who play video games together on an Xbox.
Best occasion : Christmas, Valentine's Day, a birthday.
Why it works : The game cannot be played alone, so the gift is an evening for two rather than a solo pastime. One copy is enough, because the Friend's Pass lets the second player join without buying it.
Avoid if : They play on a PlayStation or a PC, since this listing is the Xbox edition. Nobody to play with means no game: it is co-op only.
