The Garmin HRM 600 is a premium heart rate monitor sold in an M-XL size. It is rated 4.5 across about 1,400 reviews on Amazon US and costs about $159. It is an add-on for someone who already trains with a compatible device, so check compatibility on the listing before ordering.
Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A runner or cyclist who already tracks workouts with a Garmin device and wants a dedicated heart rate monitor
Best occasion : Christmas, a birthday, a race-training milestone
Why it works : A dedicated heart rate monitor is the kind of upgrade serious trainees want but rarely buy for themselves. Because it is made by Garmin, it is a natural match if they already wear a Garmin watch, though you should confirm the pairing on the listing. A 4.5 rating across about 1,400 reviews at about $159 is a respectable record for an accessory.
Avoid if : You do not know what device they train with, or they want a standalone fitness tracker: this is an accessory, not a watch, and about $159 is a lot for something that only helps with the right device.
