Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A collector of Christmas villages, or a Grinch fan who sets out holiday decorations every December.
Best occasion : Christmas, as a gift for someone who decorates.
Why it works : It adds a lit, hand-painted porcelain piece to a Christmas display, and it belongs to a named Grinch Village line, so it extends an existing collection or starts one. The bulb is included. About 240 reviews at 4.8 stars, at about $115.
Avoid if : The recipient does not collect holiday villages: it is a display piece with no everyday use. It also needs a power outlet nearby for the light cord.
