Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A puzzler, beginner or regular, who likes calm landscapes
Best occasion : Christmas, a birthday
Why it works : It fits in a small box and fills several evenings. The A-to-F sorting letters on the back of the pieces and the reference poster make it easy to start, and the finished scene can be framed. Rated 4.6 across more than 1,600 reviews, at about $13.
Avoid if : They already own a stack of puzzles or want a hard challenge: the sorting marks make it friendlier than a pure brain-burner. It also needs a free table for several days.
