Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A puzzler who likes a holiday scene to work on in December, or a family that does one puzzle every Christmas week.
Best occasion : Christmas.
Why it works : A Christmas scene is something people only want in December, so it is a gift that fits the season rather than sitting in a closet. The A-F letters on the pieces make a night-sky image less frustrating to sort. About $20, rated 4.6 across 1,698 reviews.
Avoid if : The recipient dislikes dark, similar-looking sky areas in a puzzle: much of this picture is aurora and night sky.
