Why it makes a good gift
Best for : Someone who reads or watches TV under a blanket and likes pastel colors in her room
Best occasion : Christmas, a birthday, a dorm move-in or graduation (the listing names graduation gifts)
Why it works : The coral pink and the classic stripe make it look chosen for her rather than picked from a pile of gray throws, and the 50 by 60 inch size is right for a couch or a dorm bed. The listing describes it as warm but lightweight, so it can be used year-round. Rated 4.6 across nearly 28,000 reviews, at about $19.
Avoid if : The recipient dislikes pink or already has a favorite blanket. At 50 by 60 inches it is a lap-and-shoulders throw, not a blanket that covers a bed.
