Astral Chain is an action game from PlatinumGames made exclusively for Nintendo Switch. The Legion, a special weapon, acts as a partner in investigations and in combat. About $54, rated 4.6 across 1,968 reviews.
Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A Nintendo Switch owner who likes action games with a sci-fi police story.
Best occasion : Christmas or a birthday.
Why it works : The Legion partner is the hook: combat and investigations are built around working alongside it, which the listing describes as a synergetic action system. A game that is exclusive to Switch is easy to match to a recipient who owns the console, and a 4.6 rating across nearly 2,000 reviews shows players rate it well.
Avoid if : The recipient does not own a Switch, or is a young child: the game is built around fighting creatures, so check the age rating on the listing before buying.
